Skizofan is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist.
He discovered art late. It was not until 2009 that he started slamming; an activity which was at that time completely unknown to him. Following his deschooling, he learns on his own, to articulate words and formulate sentences. He takes more and more pleasure in it. The discovery of this talent is surprising and euphoric at the same time. Fanio participated in the first Mauritius National Grand Slam in 2011 and won second place in the team and individual competition. He also took first and second place in the Les Lignes d’Or National Poetry Competition. Many opportunities follow that allow him to participate in cultural events, concerts and festivals. His natural aptitude for writing allows him to travel to France for the 2014 Slam World Cup in Paris and the Ivory Coast, where he is a finalist in the New Literature Competition for the 2017 Games of La Francophonie, in Abidjan.
In 2019, Skizofan is questioning his creative approach. Writing seems too obvious to him and writing notebooks are no longer enough for him. He seeks a more spontaneous, liberating conception and above all to reveal a new challenge; visual art. It was then that he discovered a new platform for expression: painting. Not having a talent for colors and brushes when he was a student, Jean Dubuffet is for him a real source of inspiration, through his conception of L’Art Brut.
Fanio ventures into learning a whole new form of art, which he calls visual poetry. He transforms his words and gives them a different look. His writing allows him to transcribe what he feels through scribbling and color. From a single word is born a universe in which symbols, lines and expressions intermingle. There is a real conversation between his mind and his artistic work. He claims balance and harmony. He naturally manages to blend poetry and painting. His artistic work is intuitive and humble. Its relationship to colors is very particular. He simulates them, works them so that they interact with each other. His creative process goes through an inventive spontaneity. His personal process is called “Koriz bann kouler”: it consists of superimposing layers of colors, which cancel each other out naturally, so as to build a hidden world that only exists under this superficial layer
